Portofino Dry Gin is proud to collaborate with One Ocean Foundation for the Posidonia Oceanica restoration project within the local Marine Protected Area. The meadows of this important seagrass represent a true natural treasure, serving as not only guardians of blue carbon but also crucial actors in the preservation of marine biodiversity.
Under the scientific guidance from the Seascape Ecology Lab of the University of Genoa, divers from the International School for Scientific Diving laid biodegradable mats made from coconut fiber.
The Posidonia oceanica cuttings were carefully sourced from those naturally eradicated on the saeabed, now thriving on a 100 square metre underwater canvas.
In this way, a nutrient bed was created for around 2000 transplanted Posidonia oceanica cuttings. With each transplant, we aren't just restoring meadows; we're securing the future of an entire ecosystem.
Come along as we work to safeguard the Mediterranean's vital lung, one Posidonia at a time.
